Turkey
Turkey
Turkey is a beautiful country filled with tons of beautiful places and wonderful things to do. From the magnificent ruins of Ephesus and the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia to the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean coast and the otherworldly landscape of Cappadocia, Turkey has so much to discover.
Generally, yes. Turkey is considered a safe travel destination. However, it is important to be aware of the current political situation and exercise caution in certain areas. Maddie had also gotten some warnings from people to be careful there as a woman, but she never felt unsafe or uncomfortable at all.
The best time to visit Turkey depends on the purpose of your trip. The weather is pleasant from April to May and September to October, making these ideal times for exploring the country. The summer months (June to August) are hot and crowded, but perfect for enjoying the beaches.
Turkey does require many nationalities to have a visa to enter the country (including US citizens), there there are also many who will not need visas as long as their trip is for tourism purposes and does not exceed 90 days.
Update: As of January 2024, citizens of the US, Canada, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, and Saudi Arabia no longer need visas to visit Turkey.
You can check whether or not you need a visa here, and if you do, you can apply for one here!
The currency of Turkey is the Turkish lira (TRY). We recommend to always have a bit of cash on you, but credit cards are widely accepted here.
How to Get Around Turkey
Turkey is actually pretty easy to get around. We took buses everywhere we went (including overnight buses from Antalya to Cappadocia and Cappadocia to Istanbul!) and we never had an issue. The bus rides can definitely be a bit long depending on where you’re going, but we found the buses to be pretty nice and the bus stations easy to navigate. There are a few different websites that you can buy bus tickets on, but we always found that the cheapest tickets were on Obilet.Book your Bus Tickets through Obilet
