Romania

Romania is an absolutely stunning country that easily became one of our favorites. There’s so much to do: explore the unique towns and castles of Transylvania, hike the enchanting Carpathian Mountains, relax in one of Europe’s largest spas at Therme, and take a boat ride deep in a salt mine at Salina Turda. In Romania, there truly is something for everyone!

Yes, Romania is very affordable, especially compared to Western Europe. However, like everywhere, prices can be higher during the peak season.

In the bigger cities and towns, you definitely won't have an issue communicating in English. However, we definitely had some issues communicating with people, especially on public transportation, so be prepared with Google Translate!

Yes, Romania is generally safe to travel to. The country has a low crime rate and is considered to be one of the safest in Eastern Europe!

The currency of Romania is the Romanian leu (RON). Credit cards are widely accepted, but we recommend always having some cash on you.

How to Get Around Romania

The cheapest and easiest way to get around Romania is using trains and buses. We mostly traveled by train, as they have railways connecting all major towns and cities. Their trains are slow but reliable, and provide amazing views of the countryside. We found the links below to be the most helpful for us as we navigated the country using public transportation; they both show all of the schedules for all companies, which made everything easy!
