What to Do in Podgorica
In all honesty, Podgorica really lived up to its reputation of being the most boring European capital. There’s not much to do or see here, but if you find yourself here, these are our recommendations!

Visit Vodopad Nijagara, Montenegro’s own Niagara falls
You’ll probably need a car to get here, as it’s a bit out of the city. This was a cool spot that would be a fun place to spend a hot day at.
Stay at Hostel Q
Hostel Q is awesome and staying here was one of the best things to do in Podgorica! The vibes were amazing and they also had some little kittens running around the property.
See the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ
This cathedral is pretty incredible, and definitely worth a visit.
Wander Stara Varoš
This is the “old town” neighborhood of Podgorica, and it was a cute spot to walk around.
Hang out at Njegošev Park
It was excessively hot when we were in Podgorica, so we spent the afternoon here and took dips into the river. There weren’t many people around, and there actually was a bit of sand to hang out on, so it ended up being a good way to spend the day!
Try Craft Beers at Akademija Piva
One thing that we wish we did here was visit Montenegro’s first craft brewery: Akademija Piva. We had had beer from there earlier on our trip and it was pretty good, so we’ll hit that next time we find ourselves here.

When we were in Podgorica, we stayed in Hostel Q and absolutely loved it. The vibes and the people there were great, and we highly recommend it!

How to Get to Podgorica
Podgorica also has an airport as well as lots of bus routes to and from the city. We arrived to Podgorica with our rental car that we had rented in Kotor, which is a great option when exploring Montenegro. I definitely recommend Local Rent when in Montenegro – it was super easy and very cheap given that we crossed country borders (into Bosnia) and had different pick-up and drop-off locations.
Podgorica is a great place to fly into if you plan on exploring Montenegro or if you’ll be heading to northern Albania. There are buses to all the Montenegro hotspots and into Albania from here.

Is Podgorica Worth Visiting?
I definitely wouldn’t recommend it as a destination, but if you have to use it as a stopover city, you can find ways to entertain yourself! If you want to explore Montenegro, I recommend visiting Kotor or Durmitor National Park.

Is Podgorica Expensive?
Not really. Although it is a big city, it has similar prices to Kotor and Budva, which are fairly cheap. There also aren’t many activities to do in Podgorica so you can’t spend much on things other than food, housing, or a rental car.
